SEATTLE, July 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) to University of Washington today announced Mukteshwari “Mukti” Bosco, CEO and Founder of Healing Fields Foundation, is the recipient of the 2022 Roux Prize, the world’s largest award for evidence-based public health achievement. The annual award, sponsored by IHME’s founding board member David Roux and his wife, Barbara, recognize people around the world for their innovative and impactful use of IHME’s Global Burden of Disease data.

Mrs. Bosco is recognized for having developed one of the first health micro-insurance programs in India, which inspired her to create health awareness and prevention programs focused on women’s empowerment and health education in rural communities. Since its inception in 2000, The Healing Fields Foundation has trained thousands of women leaders known as Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs), enabling them to generate income while educating their populations about preventative health care, l sanitation, nutrition and non-communicable diseases and giving them access to care through facilitated telehealth. As health advocates under Ms. Bosco’s leadership, they are positioned to observe, assess and intervene in the unique health challenges of their respective communities. Through strategic data collection, which included tracking health trends through community surveys and mobile phone surveys, they can quickly identify evidence-based solutions to improve access and health outcomes.

Healing Field’s preventive health education program has helped more than six million families in India and is considered one of the most impactful programs of its kind. Reviewed by some of the world’s leading research institutions, including Deloitte and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, the Healing Fields Foundation has championed gender equality while improving people’s health and agency in resource-constrained communities by India. Ms. Bosco pledged to expand her life’s work by deploying more health workers across India improve the health and well-being of 300 million citizens by 2030.

In October, Dr. Bosco’s outstanding contributions to population health research will be celebrated at an awards dinner at London, UKwhere she will receive a $100,000 award to support his ongoing work.

The Roux Prize recognizes individuals who have used evidence-based health data to improve population health. Beginning in September, IHME will be accepting nominations for the 2023 Roux Prize. Nominations are accepted worldwide and may include, but are not limited to, staff from government agencies, researchers from academic institutions, volunteers from charities or healthcare providers working in the community.
