ABOUT MEDGLOBAL

MedGlobal was founded in June 2017 by doctors experienced in humanitarian medicine to meet the health needs of the most vulnerable around the world. MedGlobal is an international non-profit medical organization that provides health services to people in need, including refugees and displaced people, in disaster-stricken and underserved areas. The organization is made up of medical and public health volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

M&E is a key aspect of the MedGlobal program to help collect and analyze data. This enables the program team to make informed decisions about the interventions put in place. It also aims to improve the quality of reports prepared and informed decision-making. As MedGlobal’s internal quality assurance mechanism, it is prudent to continuously provide improvement feedback on shared reports. S/he will assist in strengthening MedGlobal’s health work and overall humanitarian policies related to our countries of operations in Bangladesh, Colombia, Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

SCOPE

The role of the M&E Intern will be mainly to manage data and support the M&E Manager to establish M&E standards in the countries where MedGlobal implements its projects. This will include, but not be limited to, collecting, cleaning, analyzing and maintaining the project database and assisting with database management. The engagement will be on a 3 month contract and it is expected that after this engagement, the intern will gain practical experience in a health setting in the humanitarian setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the M&E Manager in reviewing and analyzing data
  • Enter data into project databases accurately and in accordance with M&E work plan on time
  • Perform rigorous project data cleaning and field-level error reconciliations (data quality checks), in conjunction with the program team to ensure that data in the program database is honest
  • Perform data quality checks on a regular schedule and under the direction of the M&E manager
  • Assist with preliminary data analysis and presentation of M&E notes to share with project team and partners
  • Assist in compiling data to contribute to strategic decision-making, knowledge management, sharing of best practices and program planning with the program team in a timely manner
  • Update group progress mapping sheet to determine level of support required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An undergraduate degree in the field of social sciences, statistics, economics or any other relevant academic discipline. Attention to detail, procedural in workflow, aptitude for precision
  • Excellent communication skills in English, written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and at least one statistical package (SPSS, STATA or R)
  • Experience writing reports, executive summary is preferred
  • Ability to achieve results while working independently
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Fluency in English is a plus

WORKING ENVIRONMENT Please note that this intern position is unpaid and fully remote. We ask for the following availability: • For summer interns (6+ weeks in July, August and/or September) o 15+ hours per week (eg 3 hours per day, 5 days per week) • For fall , winter and/or spring intern (12+ weeks starting in September or later) o 10+ hours per week
