Washington – Please see the following statement from PETA neuroscientist Dr. Katherine Roe regarding the apparent fabrication of research data on Alzheimer’s disease as studied by Science.

It’s a devastating loss for humans who need viable treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and for the millions of animals who have suffered because someone cared more about accolades than good science. Sadly, this is just one of thousands of examples demonstrating the tendency of animal experimenters to overestimate the value of their research and the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) almost total lack of control over how they spend. taxpayers’ money. In this case, it appears that the experimenters using mice and rats have misled the entire Alzheimer’s research community, wasting hundreds of millions of dollars in public funding trying to cure a disease. which kills more than a million humans every year. This situation comes as no surprise to PETA, which has spent decades exposing the lies of experimenters and the NIH’s refusal to act. The whole system needs to be overhauled, and again we urge the NIH to accept PETA Research Modernization Agreement.
