Data management: the heart of See more +

Brittany Brown and Rob Winters are the co-founders of Digitiv, a web design and marketing agency. Brittany is the Business Officer and Rob is the Technology Officer of Digitiv. I welcome them to this week’s episode to talk about their business, the benefits of data management, PodOps, and the components of a successful podcast.

Data management: the heart of Digitiv

Digitiv maintains that your website and social media presence are essential to growing your business. They provide their clients with marketing strategies and efforts that drive growth, including data management. I point out that some companies may think they are too small to care about data management. I ask why Brittany and Rob place it as one of their main services. Rob responds that every business should start thinking about data management from the start, regardless of size. Whenever the Digitiv team starts creating a new website, some customer data is usually not protected by the SSL certificate, which makes it vulnerable to potential hackers. Some organizations even think their data is secure and self-managed when it is not. This is why data management is so vital to a business. “It’s not about protecting customer data, but you’re also protecting yourself. You don’t want to open yourself up to possible legal action because you’re not considering certain aspects of security and data integrity for your customer,” says Rob.

What is PodOps?

I ask Brittany and Rob to talk about their podcast and their podcast app. Rob and Brittany started a podcast to continue growing their business and promoting their services. Each episode explains “what it really means to start, grow and thrive as a small business.” It started as a fun thing where they could share ideas with other entrepreneurs, but eventually evolved into a new source of income. When you exhaust your contacts, they tell me, recruiting new guests for your show becomes difficult. Their app, PodOps, is “a dating service for podcast hosts and guests to connect and schedule interviews.” It revolutionizes podcast content as we know it, they explain.

The components of a successful podcast

I ask what Brittany and Rob think are the key elements of a successful podcast. The first key, they note, is to set a goal or purpose for the podcast, as it provides a structure to grow successfully. You also need to be in tune with your listeners, which means the host needs to know the topic well enough to direct it so your listeners are receptive. A third factor that plays into the success of your podcast is sound quality. They tell me that listeners are “quickly put off by poor sound quality or poor production.” The final element of a successful podcast is providing transcripts, as it expands your audience to people who are hard of hearing.
