Even with all the changes to the core mechanics that Game Freak has made in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the developers still haven’t given us an alternate save slot to use for multiple parts of the game.

It’s not something new, however. Pokemon games have featured only one save slot since Red and Green launched for the Game Boy in 1996. And all of that means players will have to erase all of their hard-earned progress again if they ever want to start afresh and start the game over from the beginning.

This is usually done by a combination of buttons pressed at the same time on the home screen for anything Pokemon game you’ve been playing, at least since diamond and pearl through Sword and Shield.

Legends: Arceus takes advantage of Nintendo Switch’s easy-to-navigate data management tools to make it easy to delete old save data. This is because game save data is tied to your Switch profile, which means you can have multiple saves for the game on the same console, but not on the same profile.

As this is the case, you will need to delete your profile save data, not the game itself, which is done by closing the game and using system settings.

  • From the Switch home screen, navigate to the System Settings menu.
  • Scroll down to Data Management.
  • Select “Delete save data”.
    • This will be the last option in this submenu.
  • To select Pokemon Legends: Arceus from the software list.
  • Select the profile whose save data you want to delete.
    • You can also choose to delete all software save data on your console.
  • Confirm your selection.

Following these steps will erase all save data for Legends: Arceus from your selected destination, which should allow you to start the game as if you had never played it before.
